Entry #4, Cabin Fever
The Braves look like they're on the cusp of being eliminated and the Falcons are suddenly an offensive juggernaut. Life comes at you fast, doesn't it?
If there's one thing I can always count on, it's the pleasure of a good book at the right time. The other morning, I stood at the breakfast bar in my kitchen with a cup of coffee and read a healthy chunk of Jim Butcher's Death Masks. Occasionally, I'd pause reading about wizards and gangster galas and vampire duels to look through the living room's large windows into the backyard. A storm had rolled through the night before, and it was a very gray day, the sun squinting between clumps of soggy clouds, the earth littered with damp leaves. A perfect pairing with Mr. Dresden and his files. Which reminds me: my wife suggested we both start East of Eden while we're on our cabin trip and then watch the miniseries after. Far as I'm concerned, that counts as dirty talk.
As far as work, I've managed to successfully fend off writing/editing my own stuff for another week. Which is not to say I've been idle all week; among various additions and tweaks, I recently uploaded the "Services" page on my website. So all you writers out there, if you have something that needs another set of professional eyes, take a gander at that page and then hit me up for those low, low prices!
I think I've decided on a sort of compromise with myself and my writing. This (cabin) weekend, I'm going to write a small outline of my next short story, but ONLY after I've edited quite a bit of the novel (exact amount pending). Surely I can keep that promise to myself, right?
…right?
In any case, expect an update on that in my next blog post. I'm also planning to add a bibliography page and some of my written work available for free on my website in the week ahead. Nothing too glamorous, but such is the nature of this glorious, horrible beast.
Until then…
All Best, Always
